Early morning, we left Paris for Lourdes. We took the train for a six hour trip. It was a comfortable trip. Once there, we checked in to the hotel and went to the pilgrimage site. Disney advertises its theme park as the happiest place on earth. For me, Lourdes is the happiest place on earth.
On arrival, we went to the Basilica and prayed. We were able to join the group from Africa and even if they prayed in French and I did not understand a word they said, I was able to follow the prayers because the same actions are done. The African congregation is very lively. They sing, they dance during the liturgy.
We also met a few Filipinos who said that tomorrow, Sunday, there is a Filipino mass. We plan to attend that mass tomorrow morning.
After mass,we went to St Bernadette's chapel and reliquary.
We went around the grounds and went to the St Pio underground basilica. It is HUGE!!!
There was also a chapel dedicated to St John Paul II and in it is a relic of the bullet that hit the saint during the assassination attempt.
Definitely a blessed first day at Lourdes.
